The 74th British Academy Film Awards, more commonly known as the BAFTAs, will be held on 10 & 11 April 2021 at the Royal Albert Hall in London, honouring the best national and foreign films of 2020.[1][2]
The nominees were announced on 9 March 2021.[3] Nomadland and Rocks received the most nominations, with seven each. The ceremony introduced a new voting system, after criticism over lack of diversity in the 2020 Film Awards nominations. In a first round, voters compile a long-list in all categories. It is now compulsory for all voters to watch all long-listed films, before the second round.
The 2021 Film Awards nominations showed greater diversity. Four of the six nominees in each of the acting categories are from ethnic minority backgrounds where it ie about race and diversity and maybe talent. Four of the nominated directors are women, while three are also nominated for best film not in the English language.[4]
