From New Latin androides, from Ancient Greek ἀνδρός (andrós) (genitive of ἀνήρ (anḗr), “man”) + -ειδής (-eidḗs), itself from εἶδος (eîdos, form, image, shape, appearance, look). Note the form ἀνδρώδης (andrṓdēs, manly) already existed in Ancient Greek. Synchronically, andro- +‎ -oid.
